Vice President and Controller

NCTA, the internet & television association, is a +$60 million organization seeking a Vice President & Controller, who serves as its chief accounting officer.??The VP & Controller, who will report to the Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration & CFO will be responsible for all internal and external financial reporting as well as the control environment, to include compliance with lobbying rules.? He/She will coordinate? the annual budget and financial audits and monitor the Association’s investments.? The Controller will also be accountable for all filings to the DC Government and the IRS.?

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of five accounting professionals in traditional functions such as monthly financial reporting, A/P, A/R, member invoicing and payroll.
  • Create and monitor Accounting Policies and Procedures/Internal Controls.
  • Annual audits for NCTA as well as the Walter Kaitz Foundation.
  • Annual budgets.
  • Special projects as needed for the President, COO and Executive Vice President.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • CPA required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred.?
  • Experience in a +$30 million annual revenue non-profit organization.
  • Minimum of fifteen years’ experience with demonstrated leadership experience in a financial capacity.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of professional staff.
  • Comprehensive financial process knowledge.
  • Good judgment, clear ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience managing in Sarbanes-Oxley compliant environment.

User Support Specialist III

As part of the NCTA IT helpdesk team, the person in this role serves as one of the first responders in providing computer hardware and software support to the NCTA staff, responding to requests for assistance through phone, e-mail, Slack, and the IT Ticketing System. Acts as tier-two support for more junior level User Support Specialist. Assists the Vice President, Senior Systems Administrator, and Systems Administrator on tasks and projects as needed.

Primary Job Duties/Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on helpdesk assistance to NCTA staff with questions pertaining to general PC or Mac usage or specific software utilization.
  • Become intimately familiar with NCTA’s user-facing tools, documentation and ticketing system, and user-related vendors and services.
  • Deploy desktop and laptop images using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) as needed, and on a regular basis, update software deployed by MDT.
  • Test software updates for Windows computers as they are released by Microsoft and third-party vendors; deploy to production machines on a weekly basis through Manage Engine, rectifying issues manually when necessary.
  • Maintain ManageEngine software deployment packages, updating the installer files on a regular basis.
  • Do regular sweeps of our PCs and Macs to ensure that none are falling behind in updates and that none harbor old, unrectified vulnerabilities.
  • Deploy new smartphone devices, upgrades computer and mobile device software, and assists in maintaining inventory of devices and services.
  • Manage printer installation and maintenance, including the tracking and ordering of supplies, replacement of toner, correcting jams, and arranging repairs through our maintenance vendor.
  • Assist in rectifying update issues on Mac OS machines.
  • As part of the helpdesk team, maintain the Association’s loaner laptops by keeping loaner machines (PCs and Macs) patched and functional and by keeping strict records of borrows and returns.
  • Perform basic repairs on desktop computers—replacing defective hard drives, adding RAM, etc.
  • Assist in managing the Association wireless device services through Verizon Wireless and AT&T Wireless.
  • Maintain IT records and documentation, including hardware inventory, software serial numbers and installation keys, IT tasks scheduling and project completion, and knowledgebase/helpdesk entries, etc.
  • As part of the helpdesk team, prepare workstations for new user orientation, and provide new employees with day-one training on NCTA’s IT systems, services, and policies.
  • Provide telephone, fax, and audio/video support as needed.
  • Assist staff with “mailings”— postal mail, fax, e-mail, UPS online, etc.
  • Other tasks and projects as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least six years of experience in the Information Technology field.
  • Computer hardware & software certification or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet and Wi-Fi principles, and basic TCP/IP addressing.
  • An intuitive facility with software in general, an ability to quickly learn new programs, and intimate knowledge of MS Office—Word, Outlook, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Apple OS X and iOS familiarity is a plus.
  • Pleasant and accommodating personality with an intellectual curiosity, a willingness to troubleshoot, and a patient disposition needed to assist staff members who possess a wide range of computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • An unfailing attention to detail, dedication to accuracy, and dependable follow-through with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Strict adherence to all company policies, including but not limited to office hours, the NCTA dress code, and business ethics.
  • Must be willing to work after hours as needed, often with little or no advance notice.

Technology Intern

NCTA – The Internet & Television Association is the principal trade association for the U.S. cable industry, representing cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks. The cable industry is the nation's largest broadband provider of high-speed Internet access, serving more than 51 million customers, after investing $200 billion to build two-way interactive networks with fiber optic technology. Cable companies also provide state-of-the-art digital telephone service to more than 27 million American consumers.

The NCTA’s Technology department provides technical subject matter expertise in the development of techno-policy that impacts the cable broadband industry.? In executing its responsibilities, the Technology department translates the impact of potential governmental regulatory and legislative initiatives to cable industry technical infrastructure and technology implementation.

The Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Working closely with other members of Technology department to design, build, engineer, and develop analytical software to a identify and analyze Internet traffic for video piracy.
  • Utilizing information retrieval, data analytics, statistical modeling techniques, and cloud computing to build machine learning models and apply it video piracy use cases.
  • Communicating clean and persuasive data directly to end users, leadership, and other stakeholder, technical and non-technical.

We are seeking a candidate who is a recent graduate with a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field. The candidate must be able to apply software programming skills to capture and analyze data and extract meaningful metrics from large data sets.

The Technology Intern should have:

  • A Bachelor or Master’s (BS or MS) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science degree
  • Experienced building AI/ML systems and applying data analysis skills using Python and SciKit to build predictive models ?
  • Experience with AI/ML tool suites from AWS
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Google, or Azure)
  • Familiarity with Linux (e.g. Ubuntu, CentOs, RedHat) administration
  • Knowledge and understanding of the core Internet protocol (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS) and networking
  • Strong communications skills both verbally and written
  • Enthusiastic
